How to apply for a Vietnam e‑Visa.
A careful, practical guide based on information published by the Vietnam Immigration Department. Before you begin
Know what the official e‑Visa allows.
Apply only through the official government portal at evisa.gov.vn ↗. The application fee is paid online and is non-refundable if the visa is refused.
Check that the e‑Visa fits your journey
The official system accepts applications from eligible foreign nationals who are outside Vietnam, hold a valid passport or international travel document, and are not subject to an entry suspension under Vietnamese law.
- First check whether your nationality already qualifies for visa exemption.
- Confirm that your intended airport, land border or seaport is on the government’s approved e‑Visa entry and exit list.
- Choose single entry if you will enter Vietnam once; choose multiple entry if your itinerary leaves and returns to Vietnam.
Prepare everything before opening the form
Have accurate information ready so the application can be completed in one sitting. The spelling and numbers should follow the passport exactly.
✓ Passport biographical page
✓ Recent digital portrait
✓ Active email address
✓ Intended arrival and departure dates
✓ Approved entry and exit points
✓ First accommodation address
✓ Payment card
✓ Full itinerary if re-entering Vietnam
Complete the official application carefully
- Go to evisa.gov.vn and select the option for foreigners applying personally.
- Read the declaration instructions and begin a new application.
- Upload the portrait and passport page requested by the portal.
- Enter personal and passport details exactly as printed in the passport, using English.
- Select the requested visa validity, single or multiple entry, intended border gate and accommodation information.
- Review every field before submission, especially your name, passport number, date of birth and entry date.
Pay the fee and keep your application number
The Immigration Department currently lists a fee of USD 25 for a single-entry e‑Visa and USD 50 for a multiple-entry e‑Visa. Payment is made through the portal’s electronic gateway and is non-refundable if the application is not approved.
After submitting, save the application number, registered email address and date of birth used in the form. Take a screenshot or store the confirmation securely; you will need these details to check the result.
Check the result and download the e‑Visa
The official instruction page states that complete applications are processed within five working days. Public holidays, requested corrections or high application volumes can take longer, so ECR recommends applying well ahead of departure rather than relying on the minimum timeframe.
- Open the official application-status page.
- Enter the application number, email address, date of birth and security code.
- If a correction is requested, respond carefully through the official system.
- Once approved, download the PDF and check every detail against the passport.
Prepare for travel and entry
Print at least one clear copy of the approved e‑Visa and keep a digital copy offline. Check that your name, passport number, visa dates, entry type and permitted border gate match your travel plans.
- Travel with the same passport used in the application.
- Do not arrive before the visa’s valid-from date or remain after its expiry.
- Use an approved entry point and carry onward or return travel information when requested.
- If you replace or renew your passport after approval, seek official guidance before travelling.
Avoid these errors
Small details can delay a journey.
